What exactly is Graphic Design?
I love drawing and hope to make a career out of it some day. Everyone who has seen my drawings in my family, my friends, my art teachers, and even the counselor at school told me I should go into graphic design. I've read about it several times but I still do not have a clear understanding to what it is. Could you explain the job to me and also give me an example of a project that a graphic designer would have to do for a customer. Thanks:)
A Graphic Designer is a person who communicates through visual imagery.
Graphic Design is all around you! From billboards to magazines to brochures to DVD covers etc... It is a very fun career and you can be as creative as you want!
An example for you... A customer (client) may want you to design a poster for them for an upcoming festival. They may ask you to design something funky with lots of colour that appeals to teenagers. Or they may ask you to design a brochure for their business etc.
It all depends what kind of graphic designer you want to be. Whether that is something in illustration (drawings in kids books, for example), or you want to design magazine layout, or get into corporate design (creating logos and brands for clients' businesses etc).
