It maybe new computer time, need help Apple or PC?
I'm sure this will start a lively debate, but I've been thinking about getting a mac for a few years now. My PC is now needing a fresh windows install because of stupid windows XP issues, and frankly I'm sick of it. Most of my friends with Macs advise me that they never have the kind of stupid windows crashes that are typical. The only thing holding me back is that PC's can be pretty cheap these days and you get more processor for the money and more memory for less.
My main use for a computer is everyday things, like writing, email, web, banking, photos, music, and I do like to podcast occasionally and do creative things as well.
I did just get a good tax return too - maybe I shoudl do my part to stimulate the economy and buy a nice new MacBook?
I'd say stick with pc. I'll admit that a Macbook is a very powerful computer, but $2000+ is a complete waste of money for what you want to use your computer for. I would say a pc in the $500-$600 range would be plenty for what you're looking to do. But if you're willing to spend more, a $1000 computer these days can be really powerful (especially if you're willing to buy the parts separately and put it together yourself), it could even match the power of a Macbook. The link below has a bunch of great DIY builds for awesome computers at OUTSTANDING values.
As for OS problems, try looking up guides on pc maintenance. Little things you do once a week or so can boost performance and preserve the stability of the OS. If you're not willing to do that, there are ways to install OS X on a PC if you're willing to look. Or you could try a Linux distro (Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSuse)
