Are any old legends around that contain memories of encounters with other species of humans?
Or other extinct animals or apes? I heard that Bigfoot may have come from an extinct species of giant ape, and that the idea of trolls may have sprung from early encounters with Neanderthals. I also though it was quite creative how Crichton interpreted the Grendol in Beowulf as a relic group of Neaderthals still holding out in northern Europe (however I figure that one was totally creative liscence haha.)
